Business Development Manager (REMOTE) Location Remote in Arlington, VA :

Title: Business Development Manager (REMOTE)

This position reports to the Senior Director of Business Development for the Acquisition Engineering Division in the Engineering Unit of KBR. Travel anticipated to be 25% of the successful candidate's schedule. Potential for remote work exists.

Summary:

The Business Development (BD) Manager combines a need for clear and compelling writing, strategic thinking, and project management skills. This is a key position responsible for fulfilling multiple roles in the opportunity lifecycle including capture manager, proposal manager, volume lead, and writer. Responsibilities include the research and analysis of business opportunities, consistent with the organization's long range and strategic plans. Evaluates projects through financial feasibility studies, market research, and planning. May assist with special studies in areas such as operational effectiveness, capacity utilization, or cost containment. Under general direction, responsible for developing opportunities to grow specific and integrated services business and establishes and maintains client contacts and coordinates meetings between company technical personnel and client representative for purpose of developing the details of the sale and serving as a liaison with counterparts on cross-business unit opportunities. The position of BD Manager is integral as a team player who works collaboratively with others, and who can also work independently, coordinate projects, develop and learn new skills, and maintain communication with various stakeholders while working on multiple simultaneous projects.

This position requires the ability to work closely with other BD Managers, Operations Directors, line managers and the proposal center to understand customer requirements, lead development of preliminary solutions, and for positioning solutions with the customer. Successful candidates must demonstrate the capability to manage multiple capture efforts in varying stages of development/execution and possess an in-depth understanding of capture processes with an in-depth understanding of proposal and capture procedures.

Primary Duties:

The primary responsibilities encompass pursuit management activities, sales material development and finalization, knowledge management, and research and analysis. These responsibilities include an ability to:

  • Collaboratively develop win pricing, and proposal strategies as a member of the pursuit team.
  • Assess client's issues, requirements, and corporate competitive position. Develop value propositions, discriminators, and solutions.
  • Plan, document, and manage pursuit efforts including identification of resources needed and briefing leadership in the review process.
  • Interact with clients, analyze information, and formally document outcomes.
  • Write, edit, and produce content that showcases KBR capabilities, expertise, and successes. Writing assignments may include white papers, management plans, technical content, past performance and corporate experience, executive summaries, staffing plans, resumes, and other sales documents for existing or new business pursuits.
  • Create strategies to gather and develop content, such as project plans, storyboards, and outlines, to include identification of information sources
  • Conduct interviews and work with stakeholders (e.g., Subject Matter Experts) to develop and write clear, concise, and compliant content
  • Participate as a proposal team member to include management roles.
  • Analyze client documents, such as Requests for Proposal (RFP), to determine response requirements. Establish response outlines and schedules for full compliance with directions.
  • Manage and/or facilitate color reviews (e.g., Pink, Red, Gold Teams) to review content.
  • Compile elements in the development of proposals in accordance with RFP specifications, coordinate the collection and accumulation of cost, scheduling, and performance elements from functional departments.
  • Lead and participate in fact-finding meetings, such as discussions with clients and customers; analyzes the information and reports findings to leadership and pursuit team(s).
  • Support the development and maintenance for a variety of business development initiatives, such as the Proposal Archive and Past Performance Database.
  • Proof and edit text and graphics for compliance, content, and proper grammar.
  • Research subjects and materials as needed to communicate accurately (e.g., to develop appropriate questions to conduct interviews)
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES:

Candidates must have:

  • Experience using Sales Force or a similar CRM system.
  • Strong work ethics.
  • Strong project management skills in team facilitation, as well as managing resources and schedules.
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills including exceptional persuasive writing skills to craft a clear story.
  • Must be willing to learn new skills including capture management, proposal management and development, project management, software support, and writing and editing in accordance with corporate style guide.
  • Superior organization and follow-through skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and analytical ability.
  • Excellent business acumen skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities and assignments.
  • Ability to lead and work together as a team, either in a support role or as a project leader.
  • Ability to translate objectives into a schedule and series of activities to meet the requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, and familiarity with SharePoint and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred
  • Proficiency and familiarity with Microsoft products including Office, Excel, PowerPoint SharePoint, as well as Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.

The highly successful candidate must have:

  • Business development, capture manager, and proposal manager experience developing proposals for DoD efforts.
  • Prior military experience

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required in a Business or Technical Discipline
  • Master's Degree in a Technical or Business Discipline is preferred.
  • In lieu of a degree, 4-6 years additional work experience required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 12 years of experience that includes: (7) seven or more years of military, or government service with qualifications in a major warfare area or have seven years or more of DoD contractor BD experience; providing acquisition expertise in support of DoD opportunities.

CLEARANCE:

  • Secret clearance is required. Top-Secret Clearance is desired.

Basic Compensation:

Pay Range: $134,200 - $167,800

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.

Additional Compensation:

KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
